One way to do that is with a good spice rub. It not only adds lots of flavor
but it helps your meats develop a deep rich crust. Checking in the supermarket however
might make you feel like you should move into the next tax bracket! A good spice
rub can be mighty pricey.
But fear not, making your own spice rub is as simple as mixing and blending
A few simple ingredients. Who knows, with a good recipe you might even find your custom rub in high demand. At the very least a jar of a good rub makes a welcome gift.
Making your own rubs will not only save you money. They are a lot of fun to make.
You see there are no hard and fast rules here. You are free to experiment with different
Blends to suit your taste. There are a few things to keep in mind however.
1.Use only fresh dried herbs. After about 6 months the freshness is gone.
2.Buying whole seeds and grinding them gives you the most flavor.
3.Lightly toasting the herbs (in a heated pan) prior to grinding really enhances their flavor.
