Fairfield Resorts started in 1966 as a single location in Arkansas, and now represents a vast network of timeshares throughout the United States. Rather than starting as a timeshare company, Fairfield began as a land development company selling subdivided lots, whole ownership condos and custom-built homes in large master-planned communities such as Fairfield Bay, Fairfield Sapphire Valley and Fairfield Glade. They still maintain this part of their company, but in 1979, they began selling "FairShare," a timeshare exchange product. Through FairShare, owners had a deeded interest in a specific location for a specific time each year, but could also trade their interest for international vacation locations.
In 1991, Fairfield forever changed the face of the timeshare industry by introducing FairShare PlusĀ®, a revolutionary concept of points-based exchange, which allowed owners to modify and adjust their vacation length, their choices of locations, when they traveled, and even the size of the unit they stayed in to suit their schedules and needs. Today, FairShare Plus is the third largest timeshare exchange network in the world.
