How to Age 50 Years in 12 Hours.

ModelMom's picture

My son turned two on Sunday. I adore him, he is the light of my life, truly. But there are days when I would easily put him up for auction on ebay and ship him off to the highest bidder. Today was one of those days. And believe me, I have aged 50 years in the past 12 hours.

My son decided he did not need to take a nap today. Which would be fine if it didn't mean that he was going to be grumpy and whiny and full of tantrums all day long. He stormed around the house grumbling in his own language, kicked at the front door because lately he only wants to be outside...ALL the time, and whined ad nauseum.

I took him to the park and he had a horrific meltdown because he wanted to ride the see saw by himself and the little girl that was already on there wasn't about to get down. So I promptly picked him up and took him home. Later we went to Target and I am almost certain that his head was spinning around a la Exorcist at one point. He was screaming and bucking and shaking his head while tears and snot shot off in all directions. I left the cart with stuff in it and left once more.

Back at home he didn't want to watch any of his DVDs or play with any of his toys. But he did want to grab my wallet and rip everything out of it. This contented him for about 2.5 seconds and then he was back on the floor wailing. When my husband got home he was happy for about 10 minutes and then the meltdowns resumed.

Timing him out worked for a little bit, but I swear, I was ready to run into the woods pulling my hair out at the roots and never to be heard from again. Just one of those days.....toddler raising days......I think maybe those Stepford wives from yesteryear weren't so off their rockers when they partook in a little martini & valium cocktail once in a while. Lord knows, I could've used some relaxants today! Man, I hope tomorrow is a better day....

LOL! Yeah, I know what you

LOL! Yeah, I know what you mean. I could have used a few "mother's little helpers" this week. My son is inconsolable because he misses his grandma. He's seven years old and suffering from hardcore separation anxiety. He will start crying because he sees popcorn, and grandma eats popcorn. Or we watch tv, and grandma has a tv. ROFL!

Here's hoping tommorow is better for you.

Yeah, he is sweet. But that's not the particular word that sprang to mind during the crying. lol

I've had days like these.

Quite a few of them, actually. I've read that one of the main reasons for the "terrible twos" is lack of sleep, combined with developmental reasons of course.

Good for you for just leaving your stuff as your son had a tantrum. Many people placate the child so that they can get their stuff done, which means that the kid learns that having fits pays off.

Besides, if I remember correctly, you buy too much stuff in Target anyway :)

YOU BETTER ENJOY THESE DAYS!

ms zola's picture

Because once they get past 12 or 13 THEY ARE WORSE...MUCH WORSE!
You will worry everytime he gets into a car with another driver...you will worry when he is suppose to be home and it's an hour past....you will worry when he stays at a friend's house because he isn't home & you don't know what they are REALLY up to.....you will worry when he starts dating and what that can lead to....you will worry when he leaves for college....or when he joins the service and there is a war going on....you will worry and worry and worry...at least right now you know where he is and what he is doing....he's throwing a temper tantrum.....good!...you can hear him, see him, kiss him...they grow up MUCH TOO SOON!
GIVE HIM A BIG HUG FOR ME......HE IS THE MOST PRECIOUS THING YOU HAVE!
