"Tea is so easily available, so widely known and God knows how many people it has probably saved, even unknown to that individual..."
I was overly excited when I first learnt about the benefits of the ubiquitous tea. It is so easily available, so widely known and God knows how many people it has probably saved, even unknown to that individual. This is a continuation of the first part, bringing you more exciting properties of the humble tea.
Women
It seems that a group of women who drank green tea, some reportedly as much as 10 cups daily, had a lower risk of cancer development.
Gastrointestinal Health
The probiotic effect of tea also helps with gastrointestinal wellbeing.
Heart Disease and Death
Tea drinkers had only two-thirds as much coronary artery damage and only one-third as much cerebral artery damage upon autopsy as compared to coffee drinkers. We can associate this with a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke. Of deaths caused coronary artery disease, one study points to a reduction by 40% among those who drank at least a cup (or more) of tea daily. However, this was observed in males. A Harvard study suggests that, heart attack in people who drank one cup of tea or more a day lowers by 44%. You are less likely to die from a heart attack if had been habitually drinking tea a year before it happens. That is what one study revealed.
Excess Fat and Gum Disease
For those who are overweight, the increase energy expenditure when you drink tea may actually help you reduce weight. There are some preliminary data that support this. If you are worried about cavities and gum disease, well, tea’s fluoride content lowers the risk of cavities development and consequently, related gum diseases. Tea also keeps some bacteria from clinging to the surface of your teeth and hinders the acid production of bacteria found in the mouth.
Bones
Bone – mineral density is also probably a concern when age catches up. A tea drinking habit maintained for ten years can help with that.
To end it all, let me just list down the benefits of this food that we are all likely to have in our homes:
