A while back, we were looking at vacations, and my husband kept mentioning Amsterdam. Now, for those who don't know, Amsterdam has a reputation. It's a little, ummm, how should I say this- socially progressive?? I mean, I think I might be scared to leave the hotels in Amsterdam after dark. I even had a friend once, a very tough woman who didn't show fear at anything, who was hesitant to wander around Amsterdam alone. lol

But this is contrasted with a beautiful city that has amazing museums, and beautiful scenery. They are horrified at the thought of getting McDonald's to go, and routinely have picnics and take a relaxed attitude towards life. There is also an Amsterdam hotel where each room is decorated differently, by an artist that puts their own unique spin on it. Some of them are really outrageous, and all are interesting to view.

I love the contrast, and if I suspect if I was ever given the chance to go, my curiosity would outweigh my nervousness.

But the reason why I think most Americans worry about it is less because they are worried, and more because they don't know what to do with themselves when they are in a place where sex and drugs aren't criminalized. Sure, that's all most Americans focus on, because it's such an extreme no-no here.

I was born and raised in Amsterdam

Fox News is always out to blacken the reputation of The Netherlands and Amsterdam by telling straight lies on the news. I recently watched a video of fox news on youtube where they claimed it's possible to buy suicide pills here, and that we're killing innocent babies by the dozens. Unbelievable !!

Amsterdam is an excellent place to visit..

I visited Amsterdam 11 times and the people were wonderful, there was no reason to fear. I even stayed on a Boatel.
