Homeschooling

homeschool | moms | teaching | wife swap

For the last several months, I have been thinking alot about homeschooling. My oldest son started kindergarden this fall, and when it came time to register him, I had a big debate.

It would be wonderful to be able to teach him at home. But I'm a single parent. I have one child that is one year old. And I work from home. How would I be able to do it.

The more I looked into it, the more I realized how hard it truly would be.

The advantages would have been less colds and flus, not having to worry about kids being mean to my child, not having to go out in the cold at 7 am. The disadvantages would have been lack of social life for my child, cost of supplies, and worrying that he's not getting enough from my teaching.

I realize that women do this every single day and they are doing a wonderful job with it. Would I be able to do the same?

I watch alot of wife swap, and I see that alot of families on there do the home school thing. But then I've seen that some of the mothers that are teaching these kids sit in front of the tv alot. The wife that comes in will say that the homeschooled child isn't as smart as public schooled kids.

So it made me realize that it takes alot of time and dedication. And alot of effort. At school it is so structured that your child sits still more, etc.

But in this day and age, it seems like a child spends more time at school than anywhere else, and they don't get a chance to just be a kid. My son has to be at school at 7:15 am until 2:17. And he's only 5 years old.

When you are a single parent in some situations it limits your choices. Being that I am a single income, I can't devote the time to schooling my son at home. But would I like to? I really think I would.

So I really want to give credit to moms that are doing a wonderful job teaching their kids.
