When it comes to Christmas decorating I’ve always favored simple elegance over gaudy decorations. I like to put candles in the windows, white lights on the Christmas tree with beautiful glass ornaments. Outside I like to have white lights on the bushes on either side of the house, so it lights up the walkway when you’re walking to the front door.

This presents a problem for my husband and I since he finds all of those things to be snobby and pretentious. My husband prefers colored lights, and he wants them everywhere. Colored lights on the tree, the bushes, the house. I swear he would blanket colored lights all over the grass if he thought he could get away with it!

Colored lights don’t say Christmas to me, although I know they do to so many people in the world. We do find a way to compromise though, I get to put white lights on the tree, while he goes nuts with the colored ones outside.
