Some French kings own the diamond for a while passing down through the family. “ Son on this your 14th birthday I would like to give you this extrodinary and rare blue diamond. Oh and it has a curse on it but ignore that. Nice diamond huh? This seems to work for a while until Louis the XVI and his queen Marie Antoinette, she of the famous eat cake quote, are beheaded by the Guillotine. The curse of the blue diamond.

The diamond is stolen from the French and suddenly shows up in England. A person by the name of Hope buys it and the diamond becomes known forever after as the Hope diamond. Hope goes broke and is forced to sell the diamond. The curse lives on.

Now the diamond makes its way to the Americas and shows up in New York. On the Titanic? Not likely.
