Hippies = Dirty Liberals
"You dirty Hippie....Tree Hugger from hell" There was a time when being a Hippie was considered a cool thing! Some would even say it was a cool thing to be called a Hippie by the very same people that now consider it a "dirty" word.
Being called a Liberal nowadays is also like being called a dirty Hippie. I think it is time we all stop the degradation this causes and look at the reality.
Wanna bet in 4 years time it will be "Dirty Conservatives"?
I think we should dub the far right conservatives "Tree killers from hell" or "Planet Earths enemy numero uno"
The Hippies in the 60s were activist's and well read people who would smoke their "Doobies" and tried to make a difference in the world. And they DID! So how many of us today can say the same thing? I shower on a daily and yet I deem myself to be both a Hippie and a Liberal! I leave the trees alone and I don't smoke the whacky weed anymore. But I do go out and protest this Government and I do care about our environment, so yeah call me a Hippie/Liberal...I will own it!

I hate hippies
But, when I say that, I'm refering to the 90% who took part in the demonstrations for the sole purpose of getting high and laid. NOT the 10% who actually made a difference and who actually understood what they were protesting! My ex-mother-in-law actually said that she had no idea what the war protests where actually about, yet still deems herself a hippie. I also hate the posers in the generation before mine and the one after who cling to the lifestyle, yet not the ideals.
I doubt they will be deemed anything but what they've always been. If it were possible, we'd have seen it after Bush #1 or even Regean! But, it's a nice thought! A really nice thought! But, then again, with all the fuss McCain is stirring up, there may be a chance to hear "fickle conservatives".

I'm a dirty hippie/liberal, too.
Well, I'm actually pretty clean, ya' know, and I don't smoke the ganja anymore and I never really did all that much, anyway (I was waaaay more into speed than downers). And I'm really middle-of-the-road rather than liberal. Still, if that's what they're calling people who care about the environment and protest the criminal behavior of our government then I'll cop to it.
Seems that when people can't come up with an intelligent argument against a differing opinion, or when they are unable to discuss their own opinion in an intelligent, informed manner, they resort to the degrading labels. Whatever. Call me what you will. If I don't like you I won't answer, anyway.

Headed to San Fransisco! I would hitch a ride, but I am scared of the chainsaw weilding maniacs out there:)Degrading labels is what the Republicans excell at...so is cheating, lying, war mongering. Then they wonder why Obama's message of "Something new and unexperienced" is EXACTLY what the people with the common sense in this country are looking for...we have seen about as much "experience" as we can afford.

Wow! Hadn't heard about them...but I bet they came from the South.
And that's my stance exactamundo!!! We need someone who doesn't have experience because it seems to me that the only thing that experience in politics gets you is jaded enough to give up and just grab what you can get for yourself. I don't care that Obama is black - hell he could be purple with orange polka-dots and I'd vote for him. I don't care that he has a past and a family tree that includes Muslims - he could be a Druid tree-hugger and I'd still vote for him. I do care that he speaks of working for the people of this country instead of making the people of this country work for him. I care that the things he is concerned with are the things that I am concerned with and that he echoes my sentiments on many of them. I also care that he wants the country to work together instead of fighting each other as we have done over the past 8 years. He speaks common-sense, not political mumbo-jumbo. And, although I can't say this with absolute certainty, I'd be willing to bet a year's salary that we would never hear Obama say, "I'm the President and I know what's best" while refusing to listen to what 80% of the country wants.

Now that's someone I would vote for just so I could say "He's a peaceful, Druid Tree Hugger kind of fellow" The old saying still stands true and that is "The truth will out" the reason this country is so excited about Obama is simple....we are so used to being lied to that when the truth hits us in the face it's positively refreshing!

Conservatives are more like "Neo-Nazi's" these days...it's their agenda or none! I disagree with what you say here Spooky because the 10 percent of which you speak would have gone nowhere had it not been for the 90 percent that followed them...I think for some reason you associate "hippies" with your childhood, and so you automatically rebel.
