I finally broke down and went to the grocery store today. I have never enjoyed shopping for groceries, and now that we don't live near a good grocery store, I have an even more difficult time feeling like I want to go, but necessity required the trip--gotta feed those kids! Anyway, on the way to the the "lovely" Giant grocery store that is in our tiny town, I had to drive past the two gas stations. On the one corner is a BP and on the other is a 7Eleven. I was saddened to see that the price per gallon of gas has gone up again and the two stations were $3.77 and $3.76 per gallon, respectively. Ouch! It just makes me sick to see how expensive it is getting, but what can we do? I press on to get the grocery shopping chore finished and when I got there, I was dismayed to find that strawberries (which I by frequently for my family) were $7.99 for a 2 pound clamshell package. I didn't buy the strawberries. I needed salad and usually buy two bags of Romaine lettuce, but only bought one since they were $2.99 per bag. I was going to buy some meat, but the selection was awful. I moved on to the coffee aisle, since we are out. This particular grocery store has the most pitiful selection of coffee brands that I have ever seen. I ended up with one of those teeny cans, and even that was around $6.00. I also needed milk, and since we have a family of six, I usually buy two gallons of milk. Today, I only bought one. How discouraging it is now to shop for food. I can't imagine how terribly depressing and worrisome it must be for someone who doesn't have as much money as I have to spend on food. If I am cutting back, then what is everyone else doing. I spent around $150.00, but didn't get half of the things I wanted and needed. Shopping just isn't what it used to be :(
