As if Heather Mills McCartney didn’t have enough on her plate. She and hubby Paul announced their split just over two weeks ago. She’s recovering from surgery to her amputated leg, and the issue of custody of Beatrice Millie has yet to be settled. You’d think the press could leave the ex-Mrs. McCartney alone at least long enough for her to recover from her surgery. But no. Tabloids are dregging up old rumors that Ms. Mills once worked as a call girl.
On what would have been her fourth wedding anniversary, a British tabloid published an article claiming Ms. Mills was a call girl in her twenties. They even found other call girls willing to claim Heather worked with them, one going so far as to say they participated together in a lesbian threesome. Ms. Mills’s legal team has pointed out that these rumors surfaced once before: four years ago. The threat of legal action was enough to end them then. Hopefully it will put the rumors to rest for good this time.
Whether you’re a fan of Ms. Mills or not, the poor girl deserves a break. The most recent reports I’ve heard state that she’s confined to a wheelchair as she recovers from her surgery. Thanks to unrelenting press attention, she is also said to suffer from anxiety, insomnia and weight loss. Here’s hoping she can recover in peace before the next round is fired. But that’s probably too much to ask.
