Haven't posted in awhile

A few weeks ago my cat became very skinny. She had always been a small cat, but this was even skinny for her. She had lost alot of weight very quickly. Her ribs and backbone were showing and to pet her, she felt like a wraith. She became very lethargic and not just acting like herself.

Naturally I took her to the vet, and my worst fears were confirmed when they told me she had tested positive for feline leukemia. There is no cure for feline leukemia and it's made even worse by the fact that it's contagious and I have 3 other cats at home.

The vet told me there was nothing they could do to help my kitty and that her liver had already shut down. She was put to sleep on july 10th 2007. I don't think I've stopped crying since then.

The others are going to get tested this week, I've decided if they do have the disease to allow them to live until they show signs of being ill. They are all acting fine, very active, they get into everything.

When I recover my senses and my strength I do plan to get a pet to replace Chloe, although no one will ever take her place. She was the first pet that was really mine and mine alone and not a family pet etc.

Anyways, I've taken it pretty hard, so that's why I just haven't been writing much lately. Hopefully I'll feel like writing again soon.

i'm so sorry

i am really sorry for your loss and i hope your other kitties are fine. i lost a cat to feline leukemia about 9 years ago. he was my baby and only 6 months old when he died from it. vet said he must have had it/caught it at the shelter i got him from. but, even though it is so contagious his brother never got it and is still alive and well today....so dont lose hope!

take care and keep us posted.

We lost our kitty not too

We lost our kitty not too long ago, and the symptoms you're describing are exactly what she experienced. Even still, there were at least two other things that could have caused it, including the tainted pet food. We don't know, because the vet never did tests, and instead was focused on trying to help her get better first, and finding out the cause later.

I wish you a lot of luck in dealing with this. Sad
