The Chinese news station, CCTV has done more to educate me in the new China than anything I could have possibly seen or read. I'm not sure where I have been since Tiananmen Square but I wasn't aware how much China has blossomed. Back in 1989, I remember the Chinese as rather mono-appareled people who rode bicycles and pretty much kept to themselves.
China was like the teenager who at thirteen had a small face and big nose. She has definitely grown into the nose and the face is stunnigly beautiful. Her appreciation of the arts is paralleled by none. She's made hugh strides in practically every field. She is a modern day culture bursting at the seams.
If it were not for CCTV I would still be in the dark ages unaware of China's dramatic change. Although (CCTV is NOT just about news programs but also a travel, cultural, and language station. However, I like their news program because I get a more eclectic view of world news than I do with CNN.
The station is soft and not raucously hard like American stations...there is very little advertising and the T.V. doesn't shout ads at me loud enough to be heard in the kitchen which is obviously where Americans go during commercial breaks.
I expect this Blog to be read by as many as 5 maybe 6 people if I am lucky, but if those five or six people tune into CCTV and get a chance to enjoy China as it is today, then it will have been worth my time.
