David Lehre is just another 21-year old living at home who likes to make movies. But David's "little" movie has taken off in a BIG way. His 11-minute film is a parody of the habits of MySpace addicts, the vanity, the jealousy, the ugliness...the addiction.
David first posted his film on his personal website , but 3 days later it showed up on the popular Youtube.com and 6 million-plus views later, he has landed a development deal with MTVU and even a personal email from Tom Anderson, MySpace co-founder.
Why did his movie take off like it did? David's movie comes at a time when MySpace popularity is at an all-time high. Anything with "MySpace" in the title is HOT. Teenagers and adults alike are on the popular social networking site. And although his movie is obviously the work of an amateur and only 11 minutes long, it strikes a chord with a lot of people. If people feel they can relate to something, they'll take notice. And it seems everyone who sees "MySpace: The Movie" feels compelled to tell everyone they know about it.
So watch it for yourself and let me know what you think. If you're on MySpace, you'll probably love it...and if you're not on MySpace, why not?
