Half-Ton Criminal Can't Go To Jail

There's a woman who's been indicted for the murder of her 2-year old nephew, but she probably won't end up going to jail. The reason is because she weighs almost 1,000 pounds and can't even get out of bed, let alone fit through a door. The police and prisons are saying they don't have any way of taking care of this woman, who would immediately have to be put into a medical unit, and prosecutors can't even figure out how to get her to court for any type of trial.
So, there she sits, or lays, or whatever, in the same bed where, somehow, she had enough dexterity to hit and kill a 2 year old that was left in her care by the mother, who's also been indicted for leaving the child there in the first place. Prosecutors are saying that the mother should have known that, even if this aunt wasn't abusive, that there was no way she could have sufficiently watched the child in the first place, especially since the woman couldn't get out of bed, and I guess the conditions the woman was living in weren't necessarily kempt either. They've slapped a $100,000 bond on the mother, and a $150,000 bond on the aunt, though I'm trying to figure out just what penalty they're thinking about throwing on the woman if she doesn't pay the bond.
Frankly, I'm not sure what to think here. The mother was stupid, but was her actions criminal? The aunt definitely committed a crime, but has she figured out the best defense in the world? How does the justice system ultimately handle the severely disabled criminal, and let's make no bones about it, weighing 1,000 pounds is a disability? And there's a deceased 2-year old, who didn't get to make any decisions whatsoever. How does one dispense justice in a situation like this, especially when those who are tasked to dispense it have no clue?

Wow Catfish this is a doozy!!

On the one hand she is in a prison of sorts...that being her own body, and on the other hand it should not be the excuse to not imprison her...If I were the judge I would force her to go on a strict diet that is closely monitored, until she loses enough weight to go to jail.
Well Sassys, the problem is,...
by law the judge wouldn't have the right to do it, I don't believe. There are minimum standards for prisoners, which she'd be if convicted, but they still can't put her anywhere. That, plus she'd have to lose about 600 pounds to be liable for going to jail without being put into a hospital ward. Man, that's gonna be ugly!
