Hail to the Colonel

People are incredulous to hear that in 8 years of driving, I haven't received a ticket - not even once (knock on wood). Yet tonight I was seemingly eager to risk a blemish on my spotless record - my foot was pushing the pedal to the edge, I was switching lanes constantly, and muttering "let's go, let's go" under my breath at the slow moving vehicles blocking my path.

Why the rush? Driving home from work, I suddenly craved for some of my favorite fast food, Kentucky Fried Chicken (now shortened to KFC), for some delicious mouth watering - what else? - fried chicken. Starving, I wanted to devour the twelve piece special (well, I guess not all of them in one meal) to satisfy my hunger. Did I say 12 pieces? Yup, there's a promo going on - 12 pc legs and thighs for a whopping $8.99! Couldn't resist taking advantage, especially since I absolutely love dark meat - in contrast to most people in America who prefer white meat. That I couldn't figure out, I think chicken breast is especially bland and dry.

Wasn't surprised at the incredible deal too. Recently read in the WSJ that given the detection of strains of avian flu in some countries in Asia and the Middle East, those countries have experienced a consumer backlash and thus a glut of leg quarters has developed among chicken producers - in short, they're giving them away!!!

With three pieces demolished for dinner (and my roommate getting another piece, he was overcome by temptation at the aroma), I now have enough for a couple more dinner meals - and maybe tomorrow's breakfast too. :-) To quote Newman in the Seinfeld episode "The Chicken Roaster", "...the man makes a strong bird."
