Great Books for Toddlers & Preschoolers

I have to share some wonderful books that my 21 month old just loves, and that my husband and I don't mind reading to him...over and over and over again! My aunt is a preschool teacher, and between her and myself (a complete bibliophile) my son has a pretty huge collection of books. These are by far our favorites:
Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems
the Olivia series by Ian Falconer
Big Little, Quiet Loud, and Binky by Lisa Patricelli
Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
absolutely anything, especially The Hungry Little Caterpillar by Eric Carle
A,B,C, by Dr. Seuss
Kitten's First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes
the Little Quack series by Lauren Thompson
Goodnight Gorilla by Peggy Rathman
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
Happy reading!

When your son gets a little older, Runny Babbit by Shel Silverstein is very good.
Runny Babbit!
I just saw that book at Barnes & Noble today and thought it looked so cute!! I will definitely be getting it for him! Thanks for the suggestion. :-)

You're welcome. I was trying to remember what age I got it for my kids. I think at 21 months they would have fun with it, but whether or not the are developmentally ready or not at that age, I don't know. They may not get that the words are switched, and it might just confuse them. lol I dunno. Use your own best judgement, of course.
I am so glad that you blogged (in a roundabout way) about the importance of reading to kids. Obviously, if you have a lot of books and you read them over and over, it seems to be pretty important to you. I really do think it's an important thing that parents can pass on to their kids. I look at people like Victoria Beckham who say they haven't read a book, and I wonder what their parents were doing while they were growing up. I can't imagine it.
Victoria Beckham
has never read a book? That is shameful....I can't imagine ever admitting to soemthing like that! LOL! That's awful. And something tells me there are plenty of other celebs that fall into her category. I am making sure my son gets plenty of books, storytime, etc. It is essential.

This week I rediscovered a book that kids LOVE. It's called "Where is Slippery Soap" and it is a Blue's Clues book. It is a bath book, so the pages don't get wet, but the REALLY neat thing about this book is that there are parts that only show up after the pages get wet. Very magical. Check Amazon.com, because I think they have at least one copy being sold by a private seller for 89 cents.
IntricateGirl...that sounds cool!
Thanks for the tip! My son loves bath books so I am going to check this one out ASAP!
