Gratitude

Last night I couldn't sleep, so I put on my ipod and listened to some music. I have mostly Christian contemporary music on it and I just let it shuffle the songs. My mind was kind of racing, so I needed something soothing and slow. I love Nichole Nordeman's music and sure enough, her song Gratitude started playing. Even though I had heard the song many times before, it seems that the words became more fitting and pertinent right now. It was as if I heard the words for the first time. In short, (an appropriate clause for me : )) she is singing about God's answers to prayers. Sometimes we ask God for things such as rain, shelter, peace and it seems that God doesn't answer us. But He provides us with all we need. We have prayed for answers to this cancer situation, but the answer certainly isn't what we expected. Thankfulness is often easily stated, but very difficult to do. We should be thankful for whatever God's answer is because He knows what is best for us.Here are the words to this song that is so fitting for this time of year.

Gratitude By Nichole Nordeman
Send some rain, would You send some rain?
'Cause the earth is dry and needs to drink again
And the sun is high and we are sinking in the shade
Would You send a cloud, thunder long and loud?
Surely You can see that we are thirsty and afraid
But, maybe not, not today
Maybe you'll provide in other ways
And if that's the case...

We'll give thanks to You with gratitude
For lessons learned in how to thirst for You
How to bless the very sun that warms our face
If You never send us rain

Daily bread, give us daily bread
Bless our bodies, keep our children fed
Fill our cups, then fill them up again tonight
Wrap us up
And warm us through
Tucked away beneath our sturdy roofs
Let us slumber safe from danger's view this time
Or maybe not, not today
Maybe You'll provide in other ways
And if that's the case...

We'll give thanks to You
With gratitude
A lesson learned to hunger after You
That a starry sky offers a better view if no roof is overhead
and if we never taste that bread

Oh, the differences that often are between
Everything we want and what we really need

So, grant us peace, Jesus, grant us peace
Move our hearts to hear a single beat
Between alibis and enemies tonight
Or maybe not, not today
Peace might be another world away
And if that's the case...

We'll give thanks to You
With gratitude
For lessons learned in how to trust in You
That we are blessed beyond what we could ever dream
In abundance or in need
And if You never grant us peace

But Jesus, would You please...

My favorite comfort song is, One Day At A Time, sung by Cristy Lane. I actually wore out my first copy of the CD by that name from playing it so often.

I don't know that song, but just by the title it sound like one I'd like. We should all learn to live more one day at a time and not spend so much time worrying about things that haven't happened yet. Thanks for your input.
