GPS WHAT IS IT? & WHAT CAN IT DO FOR YOU?

Ever get lost? I have. I have been the Queen of Lost. If even getting lost is possible, I can do it. Somehow, through the Grace of God I have found my way home. Usually, if I am lost while driving, I just keep turning onto roads that look like they are going to lead me somewhere and bingo, they do. The problem with that is there have been a few times I have almost run out of gas in unfamiliar places. It can be scary, especially if you have kids with you.

Worry No More! There is GPS or Global Positioning Systems. You know the stuff Will SMith fought in Enemy of the State. Yep. They are real and while the movie made a pretty good point, they are not all bad.

Many new cars are being equiped with them That way, when you take a few wrong turns, your system will tell you where you are and what you need to do to get back on track. Have an older car? That's okay, you can buy a portable one and plug it into your car's cigarette lighter. There are even models that you can use with your PDA. These systems access satellites, can "talk" to you or some models come with directional maps that you have to read. If you get the kind you have to read, please pull off of the highway to get your directions. The rest of us want you to stay out of our lane while you figure out WHERE YOU ARE.

Some companies are putting chips into kids accessories so that if they get lost, they can be tracked through the GPS system. They can be found in minutes. So, it's not a bad idea to give your child a watch or some other article which contains a GPS chip.

Is GPS an "Enemy of the State"? Or Friend of the User? I guess time will tell. As with everything there is an upside and a downside to it. While it's true the system could be intrusive, there are also positives. Next time you're lost, think about installing a GPS device.
