Gossip in the church

christianity | christians | church | Jesus | Religion | worship

For the last few months, I have been attending a church on and off, and I am amazed at the gossip in the church. This church is located in a smaller area. It doesn't have a whole lot of members. But it seems that everyone knows everyone's business and they are very quick to talk about it.

Where I live is a bigger area. In the churches here, there are a lot more people that attend, and it doesn't seem that anyone really knows anything about anyone else.

So being that I have attended this smaller church, and I have family that goes there I am amazed at what I am hearing. Church is supposed to be a place of worship. We aren't here to judge others. Gossip can be very hurtful. Especially, when someone is struggling with their choices in life.

More importantly, when someone attends a church where there is a lot of gossip, it turns people away from Christianity. That's wrong. A non-believer wonders what's so great about being a Christian, when a Christian is talking so badly about others.

Maybe it's not such a problem in a bigger city, but this little small church has problems. Due to these problems, they may never grow into a larger church. It's not the church itself, it's the people that make it up.

Bravo I agree that is bad form

You hit the nail on the head. It seems that people just love to form into groups and bag on someone for the shere fun and entertainment of it and at the expense of hurting someone else in the process. That isn't someone who is trying to live through the teachings of Jesus. Given that maybe the minister, pastor or priest can work on his or her smaller congregation and get that changed.

Thanks for replying.

It's so sad to see this, and even sadder that it actually turns people away.
