Good Movies - Bad Actors

I’ve decided to make Fridays off-topic and today’s topic will be about good movies, with a horrible star. Who hasn’t seen “Dances with Wolves? Here we have great movie. The cinematography is wonderful, the story line is believable and well written, and the casting is great - except for one person. It is sad to say, but true, Kevin Costner is a horrible actor and he proved it in this movie.

From his extremely annoying voice, to his monotone and obviously rehearsed acting “skills, someone has to say, “Who told this guy he could act?! I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that he can’t act to save his life, or the fact that he is always cast in a really good movie with actors who actually really can act.

For instance, I wasn’t all that partial to the story line of “Waterworld but it was interesting enough to be considered a good movie. I know that there are lots of child actors who can steal the show, but Tina Majorino is really a very good actress. Put Costner up against her and you see what I mean.

Some other really good movies that Costner’s played in are “Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves, “The Body Guard, and though I’ve never seen this one, I’ve heard it is good, “Field of Dreams.

So, I’m not really sure WHY he keeps getting cast in good movies, because he kills the movie! But I hope that if he is cast in another movie soon, that it will be a bad one, this way I won’t have to watch his horrible acting.

If you agree, let me know, if not, tell me that too!! Or maybe there are other horrible actors you want to gripe about. Feel free!!

there are no bad actors, only bad acts

the director of the movie determines what is projected on the silver screen in the theater you attend, It is at his or her direction that an actor is chosen, and which take of each shot is cut in, and how. The director determines how the actor is to act a role. The director is even interpreting the script, deciding what to include, and how to do so. It is the sensibility and taste of the director you should find fault with. I can imagine any number of actors who, when given the direction, would act just like Kevin. why would they? for the millions they get paid. It's not what the director thinks of Kevin that is reflected, but what the director thinks of you...

That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard

Ok, I can understand your comment if this was a one or even a two time deal, but in EVERY movie that Costner plays in, it is always the same horrible "acting". Yes, there are lots of actors out there that under better direction can act better, but for the most part, since they ARE being paid the big bucks, they try to do their best.

In Costner's case, I think he is doing his best and his best sucks. Of course, this is all my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. However, I am not the only person who thinks Costner can't act. In fact, most people I've talked to say the same thing.

But maybe you're right. If I ever see Costner play in a movie where he actually does a half-way decent job, I'll let ya know.

What about the Matrix and Keanu Reeves?

Great movie, but can Keanu act? NO!

He does look pretty badass, though.

I don't think Kevin Costner is THAT bad. It's just his voice.

Actually, I liked,...

Costner in JFK, but that's pretty much it. It was ridiculously bad casting putting him in Robin Hood.

Fandango?

gotta say that's one I've never even heard of! :-) You know, I didn't even like him in Bull Durham, and I liked that movie. But, maybe it's him that's keeping me from watching Field of Dreams, which I heard was wonderful.

Fandango is a really old one, when Costner was really young.

And it is actually one of the few things I've ever liked him in. I agree he was horrible in JFK - but Gary Oldman, as Oswald, stole that show, anyway.

Frankly, I barely noticed him in Bull Durham because I got such a kick out of Tim Robbins. Now, Field of Dreams was ok but, from what I understand, you have to be a guy to really get into it - it's a father-son kind of thing. Every man I've ever talked to about that movie just loved it.

Well, of course,...

that goes for all opinions, right? :-)

Ah! Finally, a man who didn't like Field of Dreams

All the men I've talked to about it get almost mushy over that movie. LOL!!! I didn't hate it, but it's not something I would watch again - even at 3AM when I can't sleep, haven't got any new books in the house and it's the only thing on TV.

I could understand,...

why men might get misty over the concept; I have to say it that way since I haven't seen it. Kind of reminds me of what I term other "guy" movies, such as Brian's Song or even Armageddon. Man, that one almost made me cry in the theater, and did make me cry once I bought it for home the first time I watched it.
