This story was pretty bad also; I'd assumed most people would know about it already, but since no one else has written about it, I will.
It's about this 13 year old girl in St. Louis committed suicide after being dumped by a 13 year old boy on MySpace after a relatively short online relationship. The thing is, however, it wasn't really a 16 year old boy; it was the parents of another 13 year old girl who used to be best friends with the young girl that killed herself.
The parents, who have not been named, said they were trying to figure out what this girl might have been saying about their family, so they set it up as a way for them to spy on the girl. Then, when they felt they'd had enough, they posted a note on that site which said "The world would be a better place without you."
Now, the worst thing about all of this is that, it seems, no real crime has been committed. This isn't a case, supposedly, where the adults were preying on a child for sex, and because of that, they're legally absolved of any criminal intent. In town, however, things have gotten so bad, because everyone there knows who it is, that the police have set up extra security to patrol the neighborhood.
The newspapers say they won't print the parent's names because the daughter still goes to school there; are you kidding me? These people should have left a long time ago, and taken their kid with them. The parents of the girl that committed suicide have since broken up because of the incident, and are working on the divorce.
And people wonder why I don't trust MySpace, and I'm an adult without kids!
