Getting Dumped over the Internet

About a week ago, on my 23rd birthday, I realized I'd been broken up with over the Internet. Specifically, facebook.com.

I looked at his (let's call him The Republican) profile one day and saw that he was "In A Relationship" with someone else. He went so far as to put up a picture of him and his girlfriend on his profile.

First of all, Happy Birthday to Me! Second, I can't believe he just threw that up there for me to see, like I wouldn't be bothered by it.

Later on, my friend asked The Republican about the whole relationship thing. The Republican's response regarding my reaction? "She understands."

I understand? Huh? What planet is he living on?

Is this the future of dating, getting dumped over the Internet?

Its could have been by text message.....

I understand texting is the way to do it now. Breaking up anyway is bad I guess. Hope things turn out for the better for you.

One of my friends is going through this right now. It kind of makes sense, and it's kind of bizarre to me. A lot of couples spend so much time talking to each other over email or on IM's that it seems natural. After all, if your relationship has been conducted on the internet, it makes sense that it would end there. On the other hand, don't people have the decency to call or even tell each other face to face anymore? Maybe it's to avoid an awkward scenario, but I think it's tacky and tasteless.
