Genisis warns of spiritual, and extra-terrestrial invasion

saphirdragonfly's picture

The sixth chapter of Genisis makes a reference to the sons of God seeing the daughters of men as fair. It also says that there were giants in the earth in those days. For most of my life I thought this was a reference to men multiplying on the planet, but its not. After reading the apocryphal books, or (missing bible books) I'm of the opinion that chapter 6 in Genisis is talking about the angels in heaven taking wives on earth against the will of God resulting in these giants (Goliath). If anybody else has an interpretation I'd love to talk about it.

Some evidence exists...

...of potentially extremely tall humanoid creatures who existed on Earth thousands of years ago. Your theory is not that far-fetched, certainly it is more realistic than many of the Biblical assertions I read.

re: Genesis warning (not ET)

The tale of the Nephilim ("fallen angels", "giants") is told in part in the 6th and 7th chapters of 1 Enoch, an influential (especially in the Jewish tradition) non-Biblical book. The myth of the Nephilim is thought by some to represent a glimpse into pre-Biblical, pre-Yahwist-cult, Hebrew religion. The myth, roughly as it is told in 1 Enoch, features in the fantasy novel Many Waters by Madelein L'Engle.

Incidentally, some of the earliest known manuscripts of Genesis (Dead Sea Scrolls copies, ca. 200-300 BCE) cite Goliath's height not as "six cubits and a span" (about 9.5 feet) but "four cubits and a span" (about 6.5 feet). The latter makes a better story, but the former is more likely the original, and is well within what normal humans might observe in populations not their own - for example, the tall Watusi as seen by the short 19th century European explorers of Africa.

In other words, the Nephilim were probably human. No extra-terrestrials need apply.

There are other religions

There are other religions which follow this. Some of the magick like Alister Crowley practices has a basis in this. Since I'm not a member of the Golden Dawn, I really can't discuss it in any detail.

In the end, it's all belief. It's just surprising sometimes how some of these beliefs intersect each other sometimes. Who would have thought Alister Crowley had ANYTHING to do with the God of the Christian Bible?

I'd only come here seeking peace.
I'd only come here seeking me.
It seems I came to leave.
