Yesterday, after watching the annual gay parade at New York on television; I was just wondering about all the commotions that are taking place in our societies regarding gays and lesbians. Why did we humans create the concept of society? I feel it is to live peacefully and freely without any fear.

Individuals are the basic unit in a society. If two individuals of same sex want to form a family, I feel the society should not stand in between them. Rather the society should provide opportunity to them to live their life freely. If a society is not doing so, it is failing in its most important duty of protecting the interests of a section of people.

Our societies tolerate incest, rapists, pedophiles and whole other lot of sexual preferences. Most of these people escape scot-free through the loopholes of our legal system. They live amongst us and we don’t recognize them and we tolerate them. It is mainly because they hide their sexual activities from the public.

Similarly gays and lesbians too can cheat the society. But most of them are not doing so. They are coming out and want to lead a life in public. They are openly expressing their sexual preference which is highly commendable.

How bad the situation will be, if a gay man marries a woman by hiding his sexual preference? He is destroying his life and the life of the woman too. Forcibly altering their sexual preference will be suicidal for them and the society. Gays and lesbians should be given a space in our societies where they can lead a normal life like others.
