Gas Prices Going Up

gas prices | Medifast weight loss program

A friend of mine sent this link to me, and it's got an interesting message on gas prices going up. Actually, what's more interesting is the video; check it out, and you can comment on it later if you'd like.

can't figure out how to delete the comment,...

and, to be truthful, I can't even figure out how I initially posted it. Oh well,...

I read the blog, Catfish and I totally agree.

Although I do see ways for people to conserve on gas - for one thing, stop making separate trips to the grocery store, drug store, cleaners, etc. Do them all on the way home from work. And stay home instead of going to the mall just to "get out of the house." Other than those few things, when you have to drive to work and there is no bus line and no one lives out your way so that you can car pool, you're pretty much stuck spending the same thing every week on gas.

I'll have to check out the video after work. Gotta keep a low profile with the noise around here. Don't want anyone suspecting that I might be enjoying myself too much on the job. :-D

I think you'll enjoy it, PW,...

it's fascinating, even if we know it's propaganda. As for gas, the video makes the point that today's cars get less mileage than in the past on average, even though the price has gone up. I'm a part of that, because I now have my very first luxury car, which obviously gets less mileage than my other cars. But as much as I drive for a living, plus I'm a big guy, I needed more comfort.

You know, Catfish, I drive an Explorer Sport because I needed

the cargo space for my gardening and home improvement stuff and because I also needed the interior space for the traveling that I did on my last job. Yet, I think I still get better mileage than with the '67 Mustang I drove years ago (no, I didn't buy it new - I was waaaay too young to drive in '67). I guess, though, that with the proliferation of all those super gas-guzzling SUVs and pick-ups, that maybe they could be correct in their statement that on average today's cars get less gas mileage - but I'm still not buying it. Heck, luxury cars in the past got a whole 9 to 11 MPG - my mom's New Yorker got about 9 MPG, brand new. Bet your car gets better than that.

Oh yeah, PW,...

my car gets 21 MPH on the highway, and probably 18 miles on normal roads. But, back then, gas was less than 20 cents, if you remember, so no one worried about gas guzzling. I'm thinking about how ironic it is that only 4 years ago gas fell below a dollar, even if only for a month or two, and in Cali right now there are gas stations that are pushing $5.00 a gallon for hi-test; that's unbelievable.

See there, Catfish? Propaganda!

I'm so tired of it all. Of course, I am also tired of the price of gas and am now wishing that I had bought a little puddle-jumper instead of this Explorer. I coulda rented a pickup to carry home the sod and the fertilizer and the drywall.

PW, you could probably,...

trade in your vehicle for a cheaper car and have the payments and cost of gas bring you to even within less than a year. Course, it's hard to go from lots of space to much less, I'd figure.

I've been thinking that very same thing, Catfish.

And I'm not doing all that much gardening and fixin' up anymore so space isn't all that much of an issue. But I surely would miss sitting up so high above the traffic. This Explorer is on a truck chassis and I can see over most of the other cars on the road. Makes maneuvering in the rush hour crawl so much easier. Oh well, think I'm gonna have to give that up pretty soon.

Just asking, PW,...

but does sitting that high up also give you a sense of power when you're on the road? That's what I've often wondered with some of the folks driving those things, and I'm always realizing that they'll have to get out eventually and then probably look up at me. :-)

Naw, I don't get the power trip, Catfish.

But, judging by the way they drive, some people sure do. I just like to be able to see the idiots that are screaming through traffic before they blind-side me.

LOL! The fact that I'm 5'3" probably has something to do with me not feeling a power trip. I'm really not a confrontational kinda gal. Besides, I know I'll have to look up to just about everybody when we're standing face to face.

First off, PW,...

I've already replied to this, but it's not showing so I'm writing it again. I'm mentioning it in case the other post does show up.

Because, this part I'm about to repeat, that being how, back in the day being six foot meant something as far as height goes, and now there are kids that tower over me, including many young girls, and they're actually very pretty, which also didn't used to happen as often with very tall girls in the past. It's just freaky.

Dang, Catfish!!!

Now we have another sign of age? Being shorter? Life just gets harder and harder.

But, now that you mention it, I have, indeed, noticed the taller younger women. And the fact that they are beautiful has also not escaped my notice - I just try not to acknowledge it. There! Proof positive that I am, deep down, truly, a claw-wielding catwoman!

That's funny, PW,...

I look and don't mind acknowledging it because, well, I get to look! lol I remember back in the late 80's meeting this young lady who was absolutely gorgeous, 18, and 6'3"; ouch! And, at that time, she was an anomaly; no more.

Yeah, ouch! For the men and the women.

Cause those tall babes do get noticed. Doesn't matter how hot a short woman is, she just disappears when a tall, leggy beauty walks into the room. *sign* Gonna have to look into some 6 inch heels.

I'm betting you don't need it, PW,...

though I married tall, out of my four girlfriends two were tall and two were small. The tall ones are just easier to see. lol

Pussy Willow is giggling and blushing, Catfish.

She's just busy doing cool things to the Sassypuss blog and too lazy to log out and then back in and talk to you herself.

But that was kinda my point - the tall ones are so much easier to see - us short ones get lost. And somehow, that height seems to make them even more beautiful. I know, I suffer from long-leg-envy. LOL!

Folks always seem to envy,...

what they don't have. For instance, I envy very large arms, though mine aren't spindly, but I've never been able to get my arms to be overly muscular, no matter what I did.

Pussy Willow's picture

I think, you're right, Catfish.

And when we see people that we admire, we also envy what they have - want to be more like them. At least, that's the way I am. So, really, it's a compliment that I hate those tall, leggy beauties. See? LOL!!!!

Catfish's picture

The truth, PW,...

is that I don't believe I envy anyone. That being said, I have told my wife that the person whose life I want to have is Regis Philbin's. Look at it this way. He gets picked up by a chauffeur who drives him into the city every morning. He gets there about an hour before the show goes on, live. He does his thing, then spends an hour after the show in a meeting. That's his "false" work day. The rest of his day he goes to luncheons, museums, openings of all sorts, then the same for dinner, plays, musicals, parties and the like. And almost all of it for free; why? So he'll talk about it on his show the next morning. And he gets paid very well for it all; man! Sure, he earned it, but man, I'd love to life that life.

And that's the only one; but there's only one Regis. I can't say envy, though, because I'm happy for him and what he gets to do, and I say that for any and everyone who has money, even people I don't necessarily like myself.

Wow! I had no idea Regis lived like that!

I gotta say, I wouldn't mind having that life at all. Not one little bit. But, like you, while I may envy him the life, I'm still happy for him.

You know, when I was a little girl in San Diego, Regis was one of the anchormen, or something, on one of the local television channels. He really did work his way to the top. So, yeah, he earned it and I'm glad he got it.

If Kelly wanted to,...

she could be living that same exact life. Now there's a woman with energy and spunk; course, she's still a little 30-something, whereas Regis is almost 75, I believe.

Sorry, I have to hate Kelly.

She's just too beautiful, too spunky, too young, too everything. Damn the woman, she's perfect! What's not to hate? :-D

That's a killer, PW!

I can't even comment on it because I'm laughing too much!

And I meant every word of it, Catfish.

Every jealousy-loaded word! LOL!
