Freelance Writing: Make Money Travel Writing

I've been talking a lot about making money as a travel writer. Most travel writersfocus on week long stays, looking for hotels in tourist areas. But, and often overlooked venue is the long term hotel stay.

There are many people who would not blink at the thought of staying in a hotel in London and forking out $22 000 for a six month stay. However, they want to know which hotel they should stay in.

There are many advantages to staying long term in a hotel, over a rental. It may be difficult to find a six month lease, and if you do, there are always neighbours, community enhancement groups, and other concerns like lawn care or snow removal.

A six month lease in Rome may move the person so far out of the city, that there will not be any real savings. $1500 for the lease, per month $500 for travel, $200 for upkeep, a month. At $2 200 a month, $13 000. If you check out hotel listings in Rome you will find several that will let you stay for $16 000 - $20 000 for the same period.

The amenities of a hotel for six month may be worth the extra $3 000 - $7 000 - especially if the traveller is visiting on business. Or, is a freelance writer looking for a new setting.
