Free Resources for Writers on the Web

There is an entire market out there selling resources for writers. Open any writing magazine and you will find the advertisements for them. Books on writing, writing courses and writing software are all available for purchase. However, many of us, especially those starting out, don't like to spend a lot of money on writing resources when we don't know if they are worth the money. However, you can find a lot of free writing resources on the Internet. Some are better than others, and you won't know until you try. But it's free, so you don't have to worry about wasting that hard earned cash on something that turns out to be useless. Now, you're probably ready for me to stop rambling and get to the point, so here goes.

I've come across some websites that make some of these resources available for free. I'm providing a links to the websites hosting these items rather than direct links to the goods themselves. That way you can find out what it is and see if you are interested.

Ebooks: I'm picky about writing books as it is. The most useful ones are probably the ones about starting a freelance business and marketing your work, but there are some nice ones on improving technique (sorry, but I don't think a writing book is going to turn a non-writer into a best-selling author). Anyway, here are some sites that host free ebooks for writers. I've only used a few of them, but I thought I'd pass on the information.

How To Be A Freelance Writer

Fiction Factor There are a few books on this page and the website is pretty good.

Mugging the Muse There are some other books on here too, including a few novels.

Software: My sentiments toward writing software is similar to that of books. I don't use writing software because most of it is only available for Windows, which I don't use, but here are a few links to free writing software if you are interested.

Fiction Factor Yes, fiction factor again. I said it was a good site.

Quick Plot

Courses: I found some free courses. However, with the free copywriting courses I have signed up for were email courses, and I haven't received anything yet. If I find they work, I'll post them later. Let me know if you are interested anyway.

I would be interested in the free copywriting courses. I know that's where the money is.

I didn't post them because I signed up a week ago and all I've received is a confirmation email. I thought I'd better make sure it's real and not an invitation for spam, we get way too much of that as it is.

Anyway, here is the link if you'd like to give it a try.

I understood why you didn't put the link in the original post. I just wanted to know when you found out. But thanks for the link.

Have you come across InspiredAuthor.com? They have free articles to help writers and a brand new writer's forum. I was blogging on another site and was asked to edit a couple of topics for them. Here's the beginning of the freelance writing topic. The site is in pre-launch now but will also have free online courses as well.
