Tomorrow, classes start. Not for me, but for the 30,000 plus students on the campus where I work. That still means that technically, my summer is over. Parking will suck again. The phone calls and service requests will start rolling into our severely understaffed office. Yes, the joys of summer are over.
I am happ to report that I spent the last afternoon of my summer planting Flowers with my wonderful wife. We planted snapdragons, some kind of purple lacey things, and some stunning orange and black flowers in pots that have been empty for a long time now. Turns out flowers really brighten up a yard, and a summer afternoon.
I am also happy to report that we did not plant the lovely titan arum, or corpse flower, arguably the most foul smelling flower in the world. One corpse flower was on display at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden over the weekend, and it apparently drew quite a crowd despite its odor. Maybe we all have something to learn from the titan arum...
Au revoir summer, it has been fun. See you next year.
