Via Deep Links: RIAA Says that copying CDs for use on your iPod is not Fair Use.
*blink*
Why do I get the feeling that the music industry would be most happy if CDs were bought and displayed, unopened, like objects d'arte?
The covers would need to be prettier for that to work. Though a shiny CD is rather nice to look at sometimes.
I own over 400 CDs. (Former music store employee. All hail the employee discount.) and most of them are indeed ripped onto my iPod--and the ones that aren't, aren't just because I haven't done them yet. I buy at least one CD a month, sometimes more, and they go straight onto the iPod because I listen to music most while at work, and the iPod (named Padfoot, by the way) is the most convenient way.
Hell's bells, people. Why buy CDs if I can't use my favorite tool to listen to them? No wonder music profits are down, the way the industry makes it impossible to actually listen to anything.
