Firefox proves less vulnerable to spyware

I suppose I'm partial when it comes to this topic. I've tried different web browsers including Netscape, Internet Explorer and Opera, but by far, I've had the most positive surfing experience with Mozilla Firefox. Now, if you aren't impressed with the cool features and extensions or the fact that Firefox automatically blocks pop-up ads, consider this.

According to a study by the University of Washington, Internet Explorer users can be up to 21 times more likely to wind up with a spyware infection than those who surf with Firefox.

Now, for those who have never experienced a serious spyware or adware infection, it's not pretty. My sister had one a few years ago that practically rendered her computer useless. It took two scans to finally clean it up, removing 1500+ spyware or spyware-related items, and it keeps coming back. Something managed to bury itself so deep that she'll probably eventually need to format her hard-drive and re-install her OS. She's since switched to Firefox, but the damage has been done.

Firefox has been praised for it's security in comparison to Internet Explorer. There's definitely truth to this, and I think my computers and files are worth protecting.
