Yes, it was announced yesterday. Van Halen will go on tour with original lead singer David Lee Roth, or Diamond Dave as some people refer to him. I thought this tour was just gonna be alot of talk, talk, talk, as that seems to be the way it's been over the last couple of years.
This tour will also host a different bass player, as Michael Anthony is no longer a part of the group. He has been touring with Sammy Hagar as "the other half" for the past few years. The newest bassist is none other than Wolfgang Van Halen, son of legendary guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, and nephew of drummer, Alex Van Halen. Word on the street is the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree on his playing.
I am pretty excited about this tour as I haven't seen the group with David Lee Roth since the early eighties, I believe it was the 1984 tour, which was also the last tour before he was kicked out.
I will be honest, I haven't been a fan of his thru his solo career, as it seemed whenever he was asked about Van Halen, he seemed to always have something sarcastic to say about all of them. He became so egotistical that it really got hard to watch him or listen to the babble that came from his mouth.
I did become more of a Van Halen fan when Sammy Hagar joined them, because to me, that was the missing piece of the puzzle for them all.
I will say that I plan on going to see them, here in my neck of the woods on October 26th, and I know that sooo many people like the Roth days better than the Hagar days, and say that Eddie played better during that time with Roth. I dont think that is necessarily true, I think his playing is always good, it just evolved into different sounds, which are all phenomenal.
At any rate, I just hope those die hard Roth fans aren't disappointed with his performance. I am not saying that is wont be a good performance, but I dont think he will deliver what those fans are wanting. Eddie will always deliver that fantastic guitar playing and with sober days ahead, it can only be terrific for him. We will also get to see just what the son of a legendary and probably one of the top ten guitarists has to offer this anticipating crowd. And there is no better drummer than Alex Van Halen in my opinion, and I speak this from experience having seen him seven times, each one outdoing the last.
