Father's Day Celebrations?

celebrations | Father's Day

I don't tend to celebrate Father's Day. Here's why. Until recently, I had a very tense relationship with my dad. No matter what we talked about, we couldn't seem to stay in the same room without one or other or both of us getting irritated. That changed recently.

Two months ago my dad sent me an email asking to meet his grand-daughter. This was such a reasonable request that I didn't feel I could refuse. After all, who am I to keep my daughter from her granddad. So I agreed, and made my way to London (neutral ground seemed best) with some trepidation.

To my surprise, it went well. Conversation was kept neutral and pleasant and my daughter got on well with her newly-discovered granddad. Although I was non-committal when they suggested another meeting, it's not out of the question. I was just surprised to emerge mentally unscathed. And who knows? Maybe there'll be a time when I celebrate Father's Day once again.

Did you know that Father's Day was invented by Sonora Dodd? She wanted to honor the father who had raised her and her siblings after the death of his wife. A web release from GourmetGiftBaskets.com has information about the history of this day of celebration. GourmetGiftBaskets.com has a selection of fathers day gifts, including baskets with wine, cheese, chocolates and more.

Nice Story, Sharon...

Indeed, perhaps through their emerging (?) relationship, you and he will renew yours.
