Family Sues Food Bank. What Has This World Become?

I talked to someone recently who volunteers their services at a local food bank.
I was so aghast at what I learned that I had to blog about this.
She told us that they now have families sign a waiver when they come in to utlize the services that indicates that if the food the families consume makes them ill, they will not hold the foodbank responsible.
The reason for this is that a family recently decided to sue the food bank because they believe they had food poisoning as a result of food provided by the food bank.

Now...I'm appalled that someone would sue a community organization that's non-profit and simply trying to help.
I can see complaining to the food bank if supplies they provided made you ill so that they do something to ensure food isn't past its expiry or change storage procedures but in this case apparently the family was suing for financial damages.
To me, that sounds like a big selfish ole cash grab.
I hope they get nothing and get turned away next time they're in need.
A food bank exists to help those in need. If somewhere along the way, something unfortunate occurs--its absolutely not happening due to negligence.
To request money as a punishment to a community charity is unfathomable. That's taking food from the mouths of others in need. Dispicable!
