The Bahamas is an amazing region consisting of two thousand cays and seven hundred islands. From the seventh century on, it was populated by the Taino people. They later became known as the Lucayans. Eventually the Lucayans were taken to Hispaniola to be used as slaves. Because of this, it eventually wiped out the population. I think this is so sad. It wasn't until 1973 that the Bahamas became fully independent. It's actually called the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. It has a lot of history. It's also a beautiful place to visit. I've never had the opportunity to visit, but I've heard the Bahamas vacation rentals are amazing.

The Caribbean is another great place for island lovers to visit. The area actually contains more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs, and cays. The island chain 2,500 miles long. That's a good distance and a lot to explore. Many, many people take Caribbean vacations every year. I've never heard anyone complain about one yet. Two weeks sounds great to me.

The Cayman Islands is another place I've heard mentioned in travel. They are actually a British overseas territory, and it's a really popular area for people that like to scuba dive. It's located in the western Caribbean Sea.

They were sighted by Christopher Columbus in 1503. In 2006, the estimated population was at 45,000. The Cayman Islands vacation rentals and tourists make up a large portion of the island's profit. It sounds like a fun place to visit.
