A few weeks ago, I wrote about my trainees who felt helpless after college. They did not know what to do when jobs they applied turned them down for lacked of experience.
This time I'm going to discuss about their attitudes towards the jobs they applied.
These group of people have the dedication and the right attitude towards their vocation ... if they know what that means.
They are a selective bunch when it comes to jobs. They avoid sales job, prefering only office jobs and jobs that have less contact with the community.
I'm not surprised. Although they are willing to
accept offers with lower wages, that may not be able to solve thier problems. Sometimes, I'm afraid this will cause them to stop looking for a direction in their life.
I've offered help by referring them to some job openings but, sad to say, they prefer to opt for a 'wait and see' attitude. Some wish to wait till the end of the course, while others say they don't know what to do at the moment.
I don't feel right to press too hard as I think they have every right to their own future.
I know everything starts with an attitude. When one is viewing things, literally 'in a closed box', there's no way to find a way out. I hope they will understand that too. I have dropped hints every now and then that opportunities begin with a single step. I even offer them to work with me ...... but excuse me ..... am I too blunt?
