Evolution And The Bible

evolution; Bible; science

On one hand we have naturalistic evolution which explains origins
without reference to a Creator. "What happened just happened." Naturalists
tend to discount divine action altogether.
On the other extreme, many churches and religious school still
regard a literal understanding of Genesis as a litmus test of true
faith. These adherents must either ignore a mass body of sceintific
data or account for it by arguing that God designed the earth to appear
old.
Yet many Christians are scientists who believe it is possible
to retain the benefits of science along with the authority of the
Bible. Many of these believers agree that the earth is old, that
the Big Bang theory may help explain the mechanics of matter's formation,
and that evidence for pre-hominids should not be viewed as contrary
to the teaching of Genesis. Some even argue that humans could have
evolved from more primitive species with a special act of God granting
His image and God-consciousness to the first humans, Adam and Eve.
