Emmanuel- God with us

This morning in church we read part of the Christmas story in Matthew 1:18-25. One part in particular struck me. It said that His name shall be called Emmanuel which means "God with us". I had heard these words many times before, but today they had a bigger meaning. The very name of Jesus, also Emmanuel, means that God is with us. God sent His Son to earth to be with us, to become human. His whole name reminds us that we are never alone.
I'm facing chemo number 3 tomorrow. It becomes more and more difficult to go because I know that I will feel yucky again. Just when I get on top of the last treatment, it's time to go back at it again. Yet, I know I have to. Today's message reminds me that I'm not alone. God is with me each step of the way. He will supply all of my needs, both great and small. As we head into the Christmas season, we can remember that the gifts, cookies, treats, gatherings, decorating and all the trimmings take a back seat to Emmanuel. So, in all we do to prepare for the celebration we can be reminded that "..His name shall be called Emmanuel, God with us."
