You may remember the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart from her Utah home in 2002, and how everyone was hoping to find her, but as the months passed hope sort of sagged. Nine months after being taken from her bedroom at knifepoint, Elizabeth was spotted with the couple who had kidnapped her. She was returned to her family five years ago today, March 12 2003. It is a fascinating story of the power of prayer and miracles and the strength of the Smart family. Elizabeth Smart is now 20 years old and a music major at BYU. She seems well adjusted and happy. Her captors, Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee, have not yet been tried for their crime(s), but when the time comes, Elizabeth is ready to testify against them so that no one else has to endure what she did. Elizabeth is also working on a book with the justice department about her kidnapping and all that the experience entailed. What a good ending to an incident that could have had a terrible one.
