DVDs… please give way to Blu-ray Disc

Blu-ray Disc | dvds | technology

Blu-ray Disc is a new optical disc format. Many in the technological field call it as the next generation optical disc format. The main features of the Blu-ray Disc include recording, rewriting and playback. The storage capacity is 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc.

The name Blu-ray is derived from the blue-violet ray used to read and write. The new optical disc format was developed by Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). In the beginning, the prices are going to give a shock to the consumer. HD-DVD is seen as a competitor to Blu-ray Disc and this might create a price war which might turn advantageous to poor customers.
