I stumbled onto a site today that offers drug testing kits for parents to use on their kids. You can find the site at http://drugtestingkits.testcountry.com
I can understand the need for this, sadly. But is it a good idea? Drug testing doesn't make up for being a good parent in the first place, and they are less likely to use drugs if they know you are paying attention. But this feels like an invasion of their privacy. Still, if I suspected my kids were using drugs, I might want something like this so that I could see if my suspicions were true.
So what do you think about the drug testing? Invasion of privacy, helpful product, or somewhere in between?
I decided to edit this, because while I was searching through the site, I found a tool that I think is VERY helpful to a parent. http://drugtestingkits.testcountry.com/drug-trade-name.htm It tells you the various slang for drugs that is in use. To demonstrate the point, when I worked at the teen group home, some of the kids were putting together a dance routine. They mentioned crip walking. I waited until they decided to go to another girl's house to practice, and I called after them, "Have a good time, and no crip walking!" That stopped them in their tracks. They couldn't believe I knew what crip walking was. They thought I was cool for knowing, but at the same time, they were very freaked out, and knew they would have to change their dance, since one parent knew what they were trying to get away with. Well, it's the same thing with drugs. If you let onto your kids that you know what 420 means, they will pay attention.
