Driving - the idiots on the road.

Well, after a couple of comments from my close shave with a semi-truck, I thought i'd open up the lines to dicuss worst and best driving stories.

I live in supernatural British Columbia, the most beautiful place on earth, except the driving standards and road system.

In 3 years, of driving, I haven't been hit by anything but there have been too many close shaves with other drivers thinking you've devised a way to stop forward motion instantly.

The cellphone drivers who pull out in front of you while talking with one hand on the wheel and phone attached to their left ear so they can't see you.

As I originially took my driving test in the UK, I learnt the English way which 10 years ago was a commonsense approach. If I had to retake my test in the UK, I hate to think how my driving has degraded.

I've learnt from my environment of driving with bad drivers around me. I don't make unsafe decisions just ones that I wish I didn't have to get from A to B in time.

For example:
Another driver is driving below the speed limit on a main 2 lane major highway. Do you A wait behind him or B go into the slow lane and pass him on the inside.

However, my driving or experience in China makes BC look like the safest place on earth. In April 2002, I was in Guangzhou in Southern China when my family and I were in a cab stuck in traffic. Behind, the banshee wail of the paramedics. 15 mins later, the ambulance passed us and a further 5 minutes before it disappeared from sight. Granted I wasn't the driver but in BC, if you hear an emergency vehicle, you get off the road no matter what. I felt sorry for the dead person who didn't make it because of the other drivers on the road.

What are your horror stories?
