Donald Rumsfeld...possible justice?

criminal | Rumsfeld | war crimes

So you know those "big news stories" that you always see that are really exciting when you hear them, but then you never hear anything else about them? Thankfully this isn't one of them.

As promised, the Center for Constitutional Rights has indeed filed a suit in Germany against Donald Rumsfeld for war crimes based upon the torture of prisoners on Abu Graib and Guantanamo Bay. Hopefully this time the German courts will not dismiss the case, and Rummy will be tried for his alleged personal authorization of the torture and abuse of prisoners of war.

Even though in all likelihood this will not land Rummy in jail, I think that Peter Weiss from the CCR said it best: "As far as I'm concerned -- and my colleagues agree -- I would be satisfied if he spent the rest of his life in shame."

I hope this is a successful venture, and that the German courts go through with this, even just for the public acknowledment that the war prisoners that the United States is holding have been treated badly.
