Do you know if your information on the internet is safe and secure...

I originally wrote this on another site in June 2006:

Question: Was Chinese dissident Jiang Ljun convicted of subversion with the help of Yahoo in providing the contents of Jiang's email account?
Answer: Most likely!

Is this a wider warning that Big Brother is really alive and kicking, and that the internet is part of his domain. You better believe it. Be warned!

This piece of news proves that nobody's private information is secure on the internet - if your government really wants to discover for itself, it can with the help of Yahoo or some other internet server!

A year down the track and I wonder what has changed? Do any of you here at Blogger Party.com have similar information to my above post? How safe is our information on the internet?

None of our information is safe online! It's not just big brother and the servers. It's also psycho's who hack your computer to steal personal email! That's something I'm dealing with right now. At least this one I have a handle on. It's really pathetic beyond belief when a grown man would stoop to stealing email - like a sicko stealing dirty underwear! - just because a woman won't love him! Sick! Just sick!

And, it really is scary how much of our info is there for the taking! Most of us think we'd not be someone who anyone would want to bother with, but it's just not so!

if you have $10, you can get information on any person in this country, probably in any other country in the world. Without that, well, you can find a lot out about someone, but if they've been really lax with where they put other information it's a lot of stuff that means almost nothing.

For instance, my main business website is linked in some fashion to almost 2,000 other sites. I have articles all over the place, and I comment on lots of forums, though not many under my name. But overall, I'm kind of hard to find because I don't use my real first name, I've never put my SSI # online except for a couple of places, and anything else, well, I have nothing to hide, so I don't care what anyone might find out.

Now, if I had kids, I might have a different take on this, but I don't, so I don't; hmmm, that looked confusing,...

Reviews of Everything, reviews and opinions of, well, almost anything!

we agree that there can be problems for some. 'Huttriver' can be found using Google, but not much under my own name. I will give you a tip - use your own name for sites that pay out for writing etc, but dont use your middle names.

My Grandfather used to say: "Don't say anything or do anything you don't want seen on the front page of a newspaper".....it's still good advice and even more so when it comes to the Internet.

how easily people will make available personal details about themselves without thinking of their safety. But then you can't help leaving a trail across the web behind you if you want to do anything at all.

details about my bank account. My address, maybe, where I can earn a few cents. I got a bit clever on our Smile City site, and altered my name a little - earned $30 and can't cash the cheque.
