Do people look down upon a stay at home dad?

If a woman is more ambitious, capable and better at surviving in the corporate world is it better for the husband to be a stay at home dad. Do people look down upon such arrangements? What are the implications? Does the husband feel insecure about not contributing to the family income in a big way. Would love to get answers to these questions from any stay at home dads out there. Is it difficult to make the adjustments. What does it take.

I have no problem with stay at home dads provided they manage things well. I have a friend who has taken on this role - but weeks into it he's whimped out. It's too hard. The kids play up on him. He can't cope. I only have a little sympathy for him. he's whimped out without trying and still has no idea what his wife had to put up with working full time and bringing up the kids. I don't lok down on him - except for his whimping!

I guess as with any other job this too requires commitment and dedication infact even more... maybe he needs to get on to the net and get some help and info....

I think a stay at home dad is awesome, especially if he's really a good stay at home parent kwim? Like really takes care of the kids and is involved and stuff, thats really cool.

Good luck to you!

I would love to be a stay at home dad, but i don't think my wife would ever agree, even though she's the ambitious working kind, she still believes that the man should be the primary income generator. She's also a control freak and hates me messing around the house, still, i am a better cook than her

Maybe you should sit down and talk to her about it... you would both probably be happier if you could switch roles! I dont think its unusual at all this day and age and even if it is, so what?

Believe me most of the times it does help to talk about issues but in this case she's adamant! But thanks for the vote of confidence!
