Divorce before retirement and what you should know

People don't often plan to get a divorce and most of them won't if they are too close to the retirement age. What happens if you are in your fifties and have to go through a divorce? It is getting closer to your retirement and all the money that you worked so hard to put towards retirement is now at stake.

What can you do? There are many options and I have outlined this in What you should know about getting a divorce before retirement. This article will walk you through the process of divorcing someone when you are too close to retirement.

I wrote this article because it was something that not many people like to talk about. It is something that a lot of people do not know about. It is also something that you should consider and what might happen to the assets that you have.

You have options and you should take a look and see if you fit into this category and what you can do to help to protect yourself, your earnings, and your retirement plans.

generally speaking the woman that gets divorced is usually the one that suffers the most economically...and by a huge margin as well. I know because I myself am divorced, and I am still trying to play "catch up".

You are right. In all the research that I have done, the women is usually the onbe that ends up on the lower side of the deal. Divorce can take a huge strain on someone and then to have to worry about the financial part of it, is like trying to win the war for the battle of the sexist. There are a few ways around this and the best way to go is through an attorney. IF you feel that half should be yours take the other person to court over it. All though it is true about the out come on a woman's part, the truth can be said about a lot of guys. Some guys feel that they loss a lot of their hard worked earnings because of a divorce settlement.

woman can afford a good lawyer...that's one of the reasons why the men do so much better...also men make more money on an average than women so it's almost a win-win for a guy...He gets rid of his partner, makes more money and winds up with a new partner etc. Whereas the woman doesn't have time to do all of that because she makes less money so she spends her time trying to survive.

It sounds like Sassy has been through a bitter situation. I understand the discrimination that goes on with women in the work place and even though we have tried so hard to make things equal, it has been a long hard bumpy road. Being a single mother for years, I found that I could actually make more than my ex husband and he was not paying child support. I learned a few things from that marriage. 1. Prenumptial agreements can save you sometimes but not always. 2. Not all men are alike, some are good and some are bad. 3. I have security issues and even though I am remarried and happy, I still have a tendency to hide money but my husband understands this and he always laughs when he stumbles upon my other account balance, says that I am trying to get rich by keeping my finances seperated. 4. Nothing in life seems fair. 5. Just because one man has treated you badly does not mean that they all will and this is a fact that I have proven.

however being a fool would not be one of them.
1) Not all men are greedy and horrible
2)I don't have security issues I have survival issues
3)I don't have enough money to "hide"
4)No one said life is fair...it's just more fair for some than others
5)I need not prove the fact that not all men a equal..But I can say that some men are assholes and THAT'S a fact I too can prove.

lol. I love sassy's attitude. No wonder how she got her name. That was a nice come back and I love the voice that I hear when I read your comments.

Who knows, maybe someone will learn something from the both of us. Thanks for all your comments and I hope to be hearing from you again.

The answer: Two people can be right about the same subject and have different opinions.
