Death Knell for Profitable Blogging?

Uh oh. We're screwed. Here we are bitching and moaning about seeing that "Today's Earnings: $0.00" every time we log on to our Adsense accounts, and what do I see when I pick up my mail?

The latest issue of New York magazine features Blogs on its cover, and examines its current state, specifically the gap between the haves and have-nots (sounds like life in general, doesn't it?). Alarming stuff. In addition, the link to the story is here, I found it by reading Daniel Gross' (whose opinion I admire and respect) column on Slate.com. Apparently, blogging has peaked as a business, and all our efforts to earn a million dollars will be in vain.

Yes, a few hundred would be great. To make the massive money, if you noticed on the last page, one must be posting every few minutes! One of them said he spends 80 plus hours a week at it, from early morning til evening.

Honestly, I do have a life away from here....and to say the least, I think someone would have to be really FULL of himself to to talk or write basically nonstop ALL DAY.

No, someone else can shoot for the millions. I would be so totally happy to earn a little supplement income, leaving myself more time to spend with family.

thanks for your comment. i agree, i too live a full life other than my blogging hobby, altho lately i noticed that its kinda taken over my life (i have my own blogs aside from here and WritingUp) - i mean, i havent watched a DVD nor read a book in ages, two things i used to do quite frequently. oh well, i too have to temper my financial expectations from blogging - i think the New York mag article gives a solid reality check to everyone who thinks this is a get rich quick scheme.

I am still disappointed every time I check those AdSense numbers too. (The first few times, I thought the dollars would be rolling in from blogging!)
