Dana Reeve dies of cancer.

Sadly, Dana Reeve has died of cancer.

I briefly had a brush with Christopher Reeve once. I was working at my university police station and he was speaking. This happened sometime after his accident. The amount of work to get him there was tremendous. Most of the people saw him wheel onto the stage with what could only be called grace. Yet the numerous doctors and security backstage were unreal. And when it came time for him to be loaded into the van to leave, it was quite an undertaking, especially for the narrow entrance that was never planned to be handicapped accessible.

The only thought that could run through my mind as a newlywed was how I would cope if it were my husband. Of course I would stay with him, but even if there were endless nurses helping us, it would be so difficult. They both handled what must have been a very difficult situation with supreme grace.

More and more, it seems like there are few genuinely good people, and the world just lost another one.
