Damned Ants.
I don't think I ever posted about this, but when we moved into our house almost two years ago, we found out that there were already several occupants that had decided to make themselves at home.....ants. Our builder tried to tell us that all new houses get overrun by ants, but I know it was his way of saying, "good-bye and good luck, you pay for the exterminator".
Now, I am no insect expert, but I am sure that not all new houses have several ant's nests within their walls and a constant barrage of the critters on every surface of every room. This and the fact that when we did end up calling an exterminator, he found old fast food wrappers and half filled cups of soft drinks in our crawl space.....courtesy of the builder and his subcontractors. Thanks guys.
So, to make a long story short, we paid up the wazoo to get rid of the ants, and yes we did try all the chemical and organic methods that everyone and their grandmother told us about first and to no avail. It took the guys at Orkin to kill em dead. But now, it being rainy season, the buggers have decided to try & move back in.
From what I hear, it is very common in this part of town for ants to come indoors while their colonies are pretty much being flooded, and that they move right back out as soon as things start to dry out (this being Oregon, things may not dry out till July). And while I normally wouldn't worry about having a few ants here & there, after our move-in fiasco, I am paranoid to get overrun again. Nasty little things. It took almost an entire year to get all the nests and eggs destroyed.....persistant? They sure as hell are.
