[SPOILERS]
If you missed it, the stars of NBC's Crossing Jordan made a guest-appearance on tonight's Las Vegas. I have never watched Crossing Jordan; I literally cannot say that I have ever seen an episode. There is no reason I know for this, in particular, I just haven't. But I am a regular viewer of Las Vegas and have been, more or less since the premiere. I rarely go out.
I have no idea if they've done this before or not, but the casts seemed overly friendly with one another. In fact, Woody from Jordan is apparently the date Sam stood up at the wedding. I watched that whole episode and I cannot say whether or not Jerry O'Connell was on there or not, but if he was, I had no idea that he was supposed to be his character from Jordan.
Sam's a total slut, anyway. That's pretty much her entire character. I think it's great.
And, of course, Ed basically solved the whole thing while, literally, handling his personal life without the slightest problem. But, it's his show; if he were guesting on Jordan, then I'm sure those cats would have saved the day.
Las Vegas stays close to its whole Sin City, self-deprecating noir riff that I can only assume is pretty true to the town, so this was an obvious "guest starring" publicity event -- not unlike the Vegas shows, themselves. I have no problem with that -- like Sam's character, it's stays to the theme -- but they were made so completely superfluous to the entire episode as to be not just unnecessary, but a total distraction.
I know they're giving Crossing Jordan fans something to tide them over (and probably at least a few characters a cozy spot in a new cast in case one of the shows dies), and I will definitely check out Crossing Jordan at least once now, so the plan worked. But I wish they'd put a little ore into it than just having them walk through "in character" and chew a little scenery.
The saving grace was Jordan and Mike's romp.
But if you're a fan of either show, it was worth a view, but nothing special.
Same can be said of Monk's Christmas Special.
